The members of CUPE 3911 want to welcome our brand new administrator, Shannon Maisano. Our administrator is an extremely important person in our local because in many ways she is the “glue” that holds us all together as we toil in isolation from each other. Our previous administrator, Kristy Burke, who served us so well for several years, was offered a full-time job she couldn’t refuse and so has left us. We wish her well and we are sure she will do a great job in her new position. So it’s good-bye Kristy and hello Shannon. We are very excited to have Shannon with us and she is already doing an excellent job in keeping us organized and effective.
Just to give a little background, Shannon holds a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Commerce in Human Resources, both completed at the University of Alberta. She has worked for various public and private sector organizations as a Human Resources professional and comes to us with a wealth of knowledge in the areas of labour relations and collective bargaining (yay!). Most recently, Shannon worked as the ice scheduler for a local minor hockey association. This job allowed her the flexibility to work from home while raising her two young boys, Grade 3 and Grade 1.
In her spare time, Shannon enjoys camping, biking, swimming and hiking with her family and participating in a number of sporting activities including long distance running, soccer, triathlon and skiing. Shannon’s experience as a long-distance runner suggests that at some point we might want to line her up for a match race with other AU runners like the VP Academic, the President, and the Provost, winner take all. Just kidding of course. Shannon is also actively involved as a volunteer with her children's sports teams and school functions and is an avid animal lover: two cats, one dog and several tropical fish!
